    Dining Room Table And Kitchen Island lighting

    If you are lucky enough to have a wiring point above your dining room table or kitchen island, there are a multitude of designs and ways of lighting your dining room table or kitchen island. Many people see this area as one of the most exciting places to select a light fitting for, as it offers them a height which they struggle get elsewhere in their property. There are a mass of different designs available to choose from in both modern and traditional designs, with a large selection of finishes on offer.

    When you are on the lookout for lighting for above your kitchen island or dining room table, it is essential you get the spacing and heights correct, the last thing you want are your lights overlapping the edge of the table or coming down so far they are on top of somebody trying to work or eat their meal, whilst it wouldn’t look right if the lights were spaced too closely together or too far apart either. Another choice you may have to consider is whether you want a row of individual pendants or whether you prefer a multiple pendant, this option maybe made easier if you have existing wiring, for example if you have one wiring point it is easier to select a multiple pedant light with a single wiring point. The size of your island or dining room table will go along way to dictating which light fitting/s you select, another key point you need to consider when selecting a light is whether the fitting you are selecting is the main lighting in the room or whether it is more of a decorative light which is complimented by nearby spotlights, wall lights, table or floor lamps. Metal pendants are an attractive choice for many but please bear in mind the metalwork will reduce the light significantly in comparison to a glass or shade.

    Practicality is also important as kitchens and dining rooms can get dirty and grubby very easily, this is worth bearing in mind when selecting your light fitting. Material wise glass and metalwork are much more practical in comparison to silk or fabric materials. The market for kitchen island lighting and dining room table lighting is massive and at WT Lighting we have acknowledged this by having a large selection of products in a variety of styles and designs to select from in stock and on display at our Staffordshire showroom. If you are in the process of having a kitchen built or upgrading your dining area, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

    Below are just a couple of examples of where customers have contacted us asking for assistance with updating their kitchen and dining room areas. As seen below, a copper finish was integral when selecting the below products.

    Kitchen Island LightingKitchen Island Lighting

    In the images above the Dar Lighting Speckle and Sword ranges have been installed to wonderful effect.

    Not everyone opts for single pendants or a multiple pendant light when choosing their lighting for above a kitchen island or dining room table. Many customers rely on spotlights to illuminate a room and on many occasions choose tiltable downlights so they can project light towards crucial areas such as the table or island. Another option which proves popular is a statement chandelier, this idea allows you to pick that decorative ceiling light which has guests and visitors in awe as soon as they see them. If you are after a sparkling crystal chandelier we have a large selection to choose from, or maybe you are after something slightly more simple to compliment your home or business' interior, we also stock a vast range of these ceiling lights.

    Below are some of our favourite ranges ;

    Elstead Lighting Emery range

    When you go to bed at night or even wake up in the morning, do you find yourself immediately reaching for your latest book or maybe your mobile phone, ipad or tablet? Or maybe you need a subtle light which allows you to get ready without disturbing your partner.

     Bedside reading lights are designed with practicality in mind as well as appearance. These reliable wall fittings allow you to read with ease, whilst many lights will boast an adjustable head or arm allowing you to direct the light into a designated area, such as a book. Many book lovers rely on these light fittings to produce a suitable level of light so they are able to read with ease without straining their eyes. Some decorative wall lights offer 2 light sources with 2 arms used, 1 for a main light source and another in the format of a flexible head or arm as mentioned previously, which offers a more subtle lighting level. Many of these wall lights come complete with latest built-in led technology, meaning you can use them for long periods without consuming a great amount of electricity, whilst they are also cool running. The majority of the bedside wall lights on offer also come complete with independent switches, allowing you to turn them on/off with ease without having to get out of bed and visit the main switch.

    Bedside reading lights are are used in millions of homes and hotels across the world, and are often the main port of call for interior designers when designing or decorating a bedroom. When decorating a bedroom it is important you select a fitting that works with your interior décor and furnishings, this is where we believe Astro Lighting come into their own. Astro Lighting boast a vast amount of high quality fittings in a variety of finishes and designs which allow you to visit this procedure with ease. When installing a bedside wall light it is essential it is positioned in the correct area, and a certain height relevant to the side of the bed, as it is no good having a light high on a wall no way near the bed, if you are want to use the reading light. Generally speaking the light needs to be installed just above or or at the top left or right of the headboard.

    At WT Lighting we offer several options when it comes to bedside reading wall lights and we would be more than happy to discuss the options available. As mentioned previously We feel Astro Lighting offer the greatest selection of bedside reading lights, below are just a few examples of the designs and finishes available.

    Sunday 30th October saw the clocks go back an hour, bringing British summer time to an end until Sunday 26th March. It is now noticeably darker much earlier and it is also obvious that we require additional lighting situated internally and externally around home and business properties. Whether you are having you tea, brushing your teeth or maybe making your way up a set of stairs, or even just getting out of your car and into your house, it is essential there is enough light for you to carry out your activity with ease.

    Table and floor lamps are often the easiest and most practical way of adding additional light to interior areas of a property, providing there is a socket located nearby it is easy to add a table or floor lamp without any electrical work being required. If you are lucky enough to have a socket located nearby, you will just need to consider what design/style, size and output you require. Additional questions you may ask yourself are - Do I want my lamp to dim? Or do I need an independent switch?

    At WT Lighting we have a vast selection of table and floor lamps in a variety of sizes and designs. Whether you require a modern contemporary fitting or a more traditional or maybe even an industrial designed product, or maybe you are craving that flamboyant crystal base to send out a stunning sparkle, we have something for everyone. Many wall and ceiling lights have table and floor lamps amongst their collections, so you may want to match the existing lights you already have in your property, or alternatively you may want to opt for something unique and stylish to compliment what you already have.

    Moving outside and you may not be hosting those summer bbq’s you were earlier in the year and you might not be outside in your garden or exterior surrounding as often, however it is essential you have sufficient lighting to allow you to get in and out of your property and around it’s paths with ease. Putting the bins out or even just making your way into your house requires an illuminated area, otherwise this will be a real struggle. When it is cold and icy the last thing you want to be doing is trying to manoeuvre around your property not being able to see what you are doing. The procedure of adding an outside light to your property is slightly harder than adding a table lamp to you interior, however it is equally, or maybe even more important. You need to remember once the work and wiring is complete it will stay there. There are lots of different ways of lighting you external setting. Wall lights, ceiling lights, flood lights, decking and even bricklights are just a few ways of illuminating your exterior premise, whilst it can also give it a stylish appearance if carried out correctly. We have a mass of exterior lights to select from in a large selection of finishes. Pop into our showroom or visit to view our extensive range.

    When selecting a table or floor lamp or an exterior light it is worth considering using led lamps – Unless it is already complete with built-in led of course. With the dark nights being here it is likely you will be using your table and floor lamps for longer periods over the winter months, so it is well worth considering purchasing led lamps, as you can leave them on for long periods without worrying about the consumption they may be using. We know it sounds obvious but if you are selecting a product with a dimmer switch, please ensure you choose a dimmerable lamp to go with the product.
