Downlights

Downlights are popular amongst many customers and can be found in more a less every room in a house. Often found in kitchens downlights are available in several different finishes, including polished chrome, brushed chrome, antique brass, satin brass and white just to name a few. They are available in fixed or tilt format, tilt allowing you to angle at a designated area, for example the sink. Downlights are also commonly found in a bathroom, if going into a bathroom they generally need to be ip rated and have a glass cover to ensure they waterproof, if you have them in or over a shower you need to ensure the ip rating is in line with regulations. Downlights are favoured by many people as they provide a good lighting level and offer a general spread of light evenly around the room, meaning the light level is constant throughout the room, they are also available in a mains or low voltage format(low voltage require transformers). Due to current regulations a lot of downlights now need to be fire-rated, some will have a built in can meaning it is ready to fit instantly, other models may require a fire hood to be fitted in addition to the light. Due to the size of downlights shrinking from the size they once were, conversion kits are available, allowing you to have a sleek looking modern downlight that will fit into the existing large hole. The more traditional downlights are still available but are proving harder to come by. We also stock a large range of Diyas’ Crystal downlights which offer a luxurious look and can prove popular amongst many customers, they are available in many different shapes. When putting downlights into a property it is worth considering putting led lamps in as they will use minimum power in comparison to halogen or filament lamps. The led lamps are available with different lumen outputs and with different colour renderings and certain types are dimmable (with a suitable dimmer) which provides popular if there are several downlights in an area. It is definitely worth going into this as you can save substantially if you are using them in a room you are in for large periods, such as a kitchen. If you have any queries regarding downlights please don’t hesitate to contact us.
