Exterior Lights

Exterior lighting can enhance your outdoor living space and is a perfect accompaniment to summer barbecues and evening parties, as well as providing a practical safety and security feature to your home. When attempting to light your garden and exterior living space, there are several options to consider. Clearly, outdoor lights must be waterproof and as with bathroom lighting there is an IP (Ingress Protection) Chart to follow. While some fittings are splash proof, others are fully submergible for use in a garden pond, for example. Waterproof sockets are also available with remote control, allowing you to turn lights on from inside your house if you want that additional extra. A huge array of exterior and garden lights are available - wall lights, post lights, garden spike lights, floodlights and security lights to name just a few. On a practical level exterior lighting is important in illuminating pathways to guide you when arriving home at night or when you leave early in the morning. Security lights are very functional too as they come on when triggered by a motion sensor. Floods are also available with PIR units to light up a large section of your exterior living space or garden when activated. Meanwhile spike lights allow you to highlight specific areas of your garden, such as a specimen tree or plant or perhaps an ornament, statue or water feature. Wall lights, post lamps and pedestals provide an ideal general light which allow you and your family and friends a clear view and can be placed on the front of your house, end of your drive or wherever you require. There is a vast selection from which to choose and if you live near the coast you can even purchase marine graded products. PIR and dusk to dawn motion sensors are available separately or built-in on fittings. A PIR is triggered by heat movement which switches on the light for an allotted time. Dusk to dawn sensors work slightly differently, coming on in the evening when it is dark and switching off when it becomes light in the morning. If you have any questions about exterior lighting please do not hesitate to ask us. A large selection of finishes are available including stainless steel, black, white, galvanised, bronze and copper just to name a few. There is an array of modern and traditional designs available. It is worth noting if you use your exterior lights a lot, it may be worth picking a built-in led product or a fitting you can put led lamps into to reduce electricity costs. Led lamps come on instantly so will provide an immediate light when working alongside a pir or dusk to dawn sensor. Konstsmide provide a mass of exterior lighting in a variety of styles. If you have any queries regarding outside lights please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
